Oliver Wakeman news update - In the Present Tour, Strawbs and The Oliver Wakeman Band

Well I am about a week away from flying out for the next leg of the 'In the Present' tour with Steve Howe, Chris Squire, Alan White and Benoit David. The 1st leg of the tour ended really well for us last year and I must say that I really enjoyed the whole tour. It is a real honour to perform these great songs with such wonderful musicians. It was also great to meet so many people who were so positive about what we were doing.

I will always remember the last night of the tour, my friend Al Lewis from Starcastle had come to visit me and we had a great time hanging out and catching up. The show went really well with loads of energy on stage. We all came off stage very happy and Alan, his wife and I stayed up late into the evening chatting about anything. I then went to bed at 3, finally got to sleep at 6 (a very loud night in the hotel for some reason) and woken at 9 by a phone call!

I left with Steve and David (the tour production manager) at 1 the following afternoon and headed to Miami airport for our flight back to the UK. It is quite a shock leaving Miami in 30 degree heat in the middle of the afternoon and arriving back in the UK with -2 degree temperatures first thing in the morning!

I then headed home and arrived at my front door at 8.30am to a very happy wife and excited son (who was asking for his presents)! Jet lag finally overcame me in mid afternoon but it was definitely a good day.

I am really looking forward to the upcoming dates which start on the 5th March in Mexico City and finish in Friant on the 3rd March. It will be very exciting to visit more countries and states over the month.

Following the last show on the 3rd March I then fly on the 4th March to Canada to join the Strawbs for an short tour of Canada. This is something I was approached by Dave Cousins (singer/guitarist of the strawbs) to do last year and I always maintained that I would love to do the Strawbs shows providing it didn't conflict with the plans of Steve, Alan and Chris.

The guys have all been very encouraging about me performing with the Strawbs and I am looking forward to playing with them again in the UK in May and Italy in early June. Hopefully this will be followed by more dates with Steve, Alan and Chris, more news on this when things have been finalised. All the current tour dates can be seen on the oliverwakeman.co.uk website under the concerts section.

My own band have been rather quiet during this period of activity but rest assured there is a new studio album being planned. It has all been written, I'm just trying to organise the recording schedule and company to release it.

In the meantime February (UK & Europe) and March (US) sees the release of a live CD album 'Coming to Town - Live in Katowice' by 'The Oliver Wakeman Band'. This audio album was only previously available as part of the dual pack DVD release of last year. It was recorded in Poland in October 2007 and was a very enjoyable evening.

May I just take this opportunity to wish everyone all the best for 2009 and I look forward to seeing some of you at the upcoming shows.
